Questions we're always asked.

The things prospective clients ask before signing — answered here rather than saved for the call. If yours isn't here, ask it directly.

Working together

Why a fractional CTO instead of hiring full-time?

A full-time CTO costs well into six figures fully loaded, plus a six-month search — and many companies between seed and Series B need executive engineering judgment two days a week, not a full-time seat. Prayantr provides that judgment now, runs the search for your permanent hire if you want one, and hands over cleanly when they land. The 30-day exit clause means you're never trapped in the arrangement.

Who actually does the work?

The founder, always — every engagement is led personally, start to finish. For larger builds that need more hands, the founder brings in engineers he's worked with directly and trusts, all under his direct review — never delegated to unknown juniors under a senior's name. That's also why the firm takes few engagements at a time.

What happens in the first 30 days of a fractional engagement?

Weeks 1–2: listen — code, people, roadmap, board expectations. Week 3: the current state and the plan, in writing. Week 4 onward: the operating cadence runs — delivery rhythm, hiring if needed, and a monthly written summary the CEO can forward to the board unedited.

Can you just give us a quote for X?

Usually after a 30-minute call — fixed-scope work is quoted fixed, and honest quotes need ten minutes of real questions first. We don't bill hourly, so you'll never see a surprise invoice.

Contracting & IP

How does contracting work with an India-based company?

Prayantr Technologies Private Limited has operated since 2013 (CIN in the footer). Clients worldwide sign our Master Service Agreement and a per-engagement SOW; invoicing is in USD; IP assignment to you is written into the MSA. Cross-border contracting with Indian entities is routine for US, UK, and EU companies — your counsel will find the paperwork boringly standard, and we're happy to walk them through it.

Who owns the IP?

You do. All work product — code, documentation, architecture decisions — is assigned to the client on payment. Builds end with a documented handover and a warranty window, not a dependency on us.

How do you handle security and confidentiality?

NDA on request before any deep conversation; the MSA carries confidentiality both ways; access is through your systems and revocable by you at any time. Client work is confidential by default — which is why this site shows patterns, not portfolios, and why named references are shared in conversation rather than published here.

Practicalities

What about time zones?

Remote-first from IST, which overlaps cleanly with UK and EU working hours and with US East Coast mornings through midday. Retainer clients get agreed standing hours in their own timezone, and the operating cadence is written into the SOW so there's no ambiguity about availability.

What stack do you work in?

Deep: Ruby on Rails (since 1.0), PostgreSQL, Redis, AWS. Fractional leadership and audits are stack-agnostic — judgment travels; for hands-on build work we stay where we're world-class.

How do you use AI?

As leverage, not replacement: research, drafting, and code assistance under senior review. It's part of why one principal can carry engagements that used to need a small team — and we'll tell you exactly where it's used in your work.

Still holding a question this page didn't answer?

Ask it directly — you'll hear back from Amit, usually within one business day. Or take the 30 minutes and ask it out loud.
